As long as you need it to be. Most often road maps are 3 years (can be 5) with year one being more detailed and tactical, and Arben usually break it down into quarters to keep initiatives active and monitored. You can just do a 1-year roadmap if there is a lot of change forecast for your business and you need to embed the changes before planning further out. The remaining period of the roadmap should be more strategic and dynamic to allow your business to adapt and pivot as circumstances change. The roadmap should be refreshed regularly to keep it current and aligned to your business needs.
At Arben we make sure your roadmap has actions that are realistic and achievable not just aspirational. Your roadmap must reflect what needs to be done to move your business forward, aligned to your strategy. Every action must be linked to a business output within your business systems context. We avoid actions that do not consider broader systems implications and are isolated. - IT Strategic Plans, are sometimes called Information Systems Strategic Plans (ISSP) but don’t get mixed up with the other Information System Security Policy (ISSP), two very different things.
- Often with larger organisations the “ISSP” is a sizable treatise that takes a long time to produce and costs a lot, and from our experience does not understand the business, it’s just about the IT.

Arben don’t see the point in just the documentation of the strategy, as it often gets filed in the bottom draw and gathers dust.
